Concept's
'Front Cover
The front cover of my magazine is going to feature a medium shot of a solo artist standing in the Albert dock Liverpool with a back ground of either a brick wall or the River Mersey. The main Headline will be "Back In Liverpool". The front cover of the magazine will consist of: A Banner, puff, main headline, sub headline, barcode, secondary images, cover line, buzzword and a master head logo. The genre my magazine will be featuring is Alternative rock with examples such as: Oasis, Arctic monkeys, Blur, Kasabian, The Courteeners, The Libertines Etc.
Contents page
The contents page of my magazine will just be a basic contents page that will let the reader know where about the main story's are in the magazine by giving a page number. Below is an image of a basic mock up i made so show how it will be set out.
Double Page Spread
The double page spread will be split into two pages. One page, probably the left will be a giant image that fills the whole page. The image will either be a similar one too the one on the front cover but will have a different back ground and a different guitar and could possibly have another band member on it instead of just the frontman or will be a completely different image with a different band member on it. The other page will be the same picture as it ill be a giant image stretched across the two pages but will have the text on it

Analysis of front cover of a maqazine
The NME is an iconic well recognised music magazine that has been around since march 1952. The key image is a medium shot of the Libertines frontman, solo writer and poet Peter Doherty. The colour scheme of this cover is white which is not normal as the NME usually has a red title. Peters facial expressions are linked to the audeince threw the mode of adress, his facial expression shows seriousnes which makes the readers want to buy the magazine to see whats inside, Also that months NME shows the "True confessions of Pete Doherty" which will reveal several things like the relationship with the singer Amy Winehouse and also talks about his Drug adiction and The Libertines.
The target audience of this magazine is anyone who enjoys alternative or rock and roll music but is specificly for Libertine fans. As you can see Peter is not covering any of the NME logo, if it was it would be super imposition, this has not hapened in that months issue as the logo as been changed white therefore it already attracts the readers. This magazine has Codes and conventions such as a Masthead, banner, cover-lines, a barcode, a puff and sub headings.

Front Cover Magazine Review
Codes of the college magazine
Camera shots
Some of the technical codes are camera shots, the shot that is featured on this magazine is a medium shot because only half of his body can be seen on the image. the images shows a confident young man that symbolises people who go to this college will be happy, confidant and enjoy the college thus engaging people to join.
Lighting
The lighting in this image is bright which represents positivity and happiness, once again this engages people to buy the magazine and possibly encourage them to enrol in the college.
Angles
the angle in this shot is a low shot as he is clearly visible and his head is at the very top of the image.
what images have been used
What camera angles and shots have been used?
what is the mise-en-scene on the frint cover?
qould the fromt cover engage audience and why?

how do you know it is for the target audence
what os the ideology of the magazine? what does the college consider important
Who is the target audience The target audience for this magazine for the students of the specific college, the magazine s appropriate fir the teachers and possible students who are intending to go there. It's suitable for both male and female to read as it's gender neutral, the college is a mixed college therefore its appropriate.
How this could help me with my magazineThis magazine helps me by showing what I should include, it shows me the appropriate pictures and headlines i can use. It also shows me how not to design my magazine, and helps me to understand how presentation is very important in catching the readers eye and interest.

Magazine cover
The NME is an iconic well recognised music magazine that has been around since march 1952. The key image is a medium shot of Alex Turner and Miles Kane who are both in the band the last shadow puppets who the front cover features. The colour scheme of this cover is red which is normal as the NME usually has a red title as it is consistent. Even though there backs are towards eachother there facial expressions are linked to the audeince threw the mode of adress, The facial expressions on the two men look fairly serious which makes the readers want to buy the magazine to see whats inside. The target audience of this magazine is anyone who enjoys alternative or rock and roll music. As you can see Alex Turner the man on the lefts hair is covering a little of the NME logo, this is super imposition and has been used as the mastered has been covered by the artists hair, this is acceptable as it is an iconic logo so people will still recognise it. This magazine has Codes and conventions such as a Masthead, banner, cover-lines, a barcode, a puff and sub headings.

Using Photoshop
This is the image i used to create the background, to get the background i used i cropped and used about half of the original picture and made it bigger.
This is the other image i used to create the picture, i cropped out the background and left the four people. To do this i had to;
This is the first thing that comes up as you open photoshop, i just had to check the settings were correct and then click "Ok". |
This is the other image i used to create the picture, i cropped out the background and left the four people. To do this i had to;
I was then taken to this page were i had to to click "File" then "Import" then select the image i wanted to import. |
This is a screen shot of the image on the page after it got imported |
I then resized the image |
I then had to Rasterize a layer |
The next step was to use the magic wand tool and get rid of the silver background, this wasn't easy as the background changed in colour but i got there in the end. |
the next step was to simply paste the four men without a background onto the other background i had created earlier. this was the finished product |

What is Typography?
Typography is the fonts used in magazines and the colours and house styles of them.
What will be on my front cover?
The 4-5 main colours i am going to use on my front cover and throughout my magazine are Red, White, Yellow, black and blue.
The name of the magazine i am going to create will be called "THE ALTERNATIVE" this is because it will feature and specialise in Alternative music which is a genre of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became popular by the 1990s.
My Logo
Whilst creating my logo i thought it would be a good idea to make more 3 of them then choose the one i preferred more at the end, below are the three logos i created in plain colour. The one i am going to use is
Examples of Alternative music
Arctic Monkeys
Oasis
Blur
The Libertines
The Smiths
The Cribs
Kasabian
The Courteeners
Jamie T
The Strokes

Feminism
what is feminism?
Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men which basically means men and woman should have equal rights
How did it originate
In the early 1900s woman began campaigning against men being more important than women, they never really got anything out of their campaign until the second world war were woman were given jobs in factories. In the factories they would make Bombs, Knives bullets etc. After the war women new they could do these jobs they had been doing during the war, so their campaign was in full effect.
Feminism in the media
There is a lot of feminism in the media, for example usually when a woman artist is on the front cover or even in a magazine the image of them is usually a seductive or attractive image as it makes readers or potential buyer curios as to what’s inside, it is very rare that the female will have her whole body covered up or an unattractive picture on it but sometimes it does happen. Beth Ditto lead front woman of the band "The Gossip" done exactly that, the front woman has done this on two occasions. On the front cover of "NME" in 2007 and the front cover of "LOVE" magazine in 2009.
The reason behind Ditto's naked poses are to fight the rights that woman are not all the same, meaning they are not all just skin and bone. Ditto thinks all women are beautiful no matter how old, young, chubby or skinny they are. On the NME cover ditto is showing her "Big" naked body but also shows armpit hair to emphasise she doesn't care what people think of her or her body.
