Feminism

what is feminism?
Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men which basically means men and woman should have equal rights

How did it originate
In the early 1900s woman began campaigning against men being more important than women, they never really got anything out of their campaign until the second world war were woman were given jobs in factories. In the factories they would make Bombs, Knives bullets etc. After the war women new they could do these jobs they had been doing during the war, so their campaign was in full effect.

Feminism in the media
There is a lot of feminism in the media, for example usually when a woman artist is on the front cover or even in a magazine the image of them is usually a seductive or attractive image as it makes readers or potential buyer curios as to what’s inside, it is very rare that the female will have her whole body covered up or an unattractive picture on it but sometimes it does happen. Beth Ditto lead front woman of the band "The Gossip" done exactly that, the front woman has done this on two occasions. On the front cover of "NME" in 2007 and the front cover of "LOVE" magazine in 2009.

The reason behind Ditto's naked poses are to fight the rights that woman are not all the same, meaning they are not all just skin and bone. Ditto thinks all women are beautiful no matter how old, young, chubby or skinny they are. On the NME cover ditto is showing her "Big" naked body but also shows armpit hair to emphasise she doesn't care what people think of her or her body.

Analyasis of one front cover

The magazine i am going to anaylise is the NME, the magazine is about the genre Rock and Alternative music. This magazine layout has one big image of two frontmen who are both mods hence the big title "THE MOD COUPLE!" there are also 4 small images, the big images and big title are what draw the readers to buy the NME. For example if you walk past a magazine stand and see Paul Weller who is one of the pioneers of Mod standing next to Miles Kane who is a modern day mod and you like mod music you would have to buy that months NME.

What Codes and Conventions
The magazine has used a medium shot for the main picture as it shows the two musicians waist's but not their legs, this is to show there serious for example they are not smiling at the camera they are looking serious and tense which will make the readers curious and want to buy the magazine to read the article, the bright lighting would suggest it will be a positive article because if it was dark it would look rather grim that suggest bad news.  The secondary images are also bright and medium shots that show positivity and emphasises there facial expressions.

What is the House Style/Mise-En-Scene?
The house style on this months front cover is bright with gold writing and a gold layout, this gives the magazine a royal look which suggests that Paul Weller is king of the mods. It is bright and eye catching as the NME logo is usually bright red but as this has a 'royal look' too it the logo has been changed black. although the house style has changed from previous issues it has style retained the classic magazine look with a: Banner, Puff, Headline, Sub Headline, Barcode, Secondary images, Cover line, Buzzword, Master head and a Main image.

How does the cover attract it's target audience?
The Cover mainly attracts the readers with the main headline "THE MOD COUPLE!" and the two mods on the front of it Miles Kane and Paul Weller, this is because any fan of Kane, Weller or mod culture would be curious off the mod duo therefore attracting the audience, the target audience in this months being people who are interested in mod culture.

Mater head
The master head is at the top of the page and stretches right across from both ends, the master head is to simply explain whats inside that weeks issue. It catches the eye of people who see the magazine and is used to promote and sell the magazine as it catches peoples attention.

College magazine photos

I like this pictures as it shows a student naturally working doing his art work. The student is copying a picture of his mobile phone and drawing it for a peace of work. The mise-en-scene shows the image is a close up in a bright room which represents positivity.

This is a picture of a student looking at the camera, he is sitting on a table during his 15 minute lunch break.  The mise-en-scene shows this image is a close up in a bright room which represents positivity and in this situation a positive work place which makes people want to come to this college.
This isn't one of my favourite pictures  as i had too take it through a classroom window so i didn't distract the class.  The mise-en-scene shows this image is a medium shot and and is in a dim room which represents boring, if you look at the image properly you can see the students look bored.
This is a picture of 4 students doing there work in various subjects on there free time, The mise-en-scene shows the image is a  bright room and is a medium shot, this one represents concentration.

This is a picture of a student doing his I.C.T work in his free time using one of the laptops provided by the school. The mise-en-scene of this image is a close up in a bright room which is representing concentration.

This is a picture of two students doing some of there media work. I like this picture as the two students are both concentrating, the mese-en-scene of this image is a close up in a bright room and shows concentration.

This is a picture of a drama student practising his script in the study room. I like this picture as the student looks passionate about what he is doing, the mise-en-scene of this image is a close up in a bright room and shows that he is passionate about drama.
